Custom Embroidered Patches No Minimum Order

What Are Embroidered Patches?

Embroidered patches are fabric-based decorations where a design is stitched directly onto a backing material โ€” typically twill or felt. They're applied to garments, bags, hats, and gear using iron-on heat adhesive, sewing, Velcro, or peel-and-stick backing. Unlike screen printing, embroidery creates a textured, raised finish that doesn't crack, fade, or wash out over time.

AFRYH produces patches starting from a single piece. Whether you need one custom patch for a personal project or 10,000 for a company uniform rollout, the same production quality applies.

Patch Base Materials

  • Twill base โ€” the industry standard for structured, durable patches. Tight weave holds stitch density without distorting. Best for logos with fine detail, lettering, and clean edges.
  • Felt base โ€” softer hand, slight texture, slightly lower cost. Common for school mascots, vintage-style varsity patches, and decorative applications where softness matters more than rigidity.

Border Styles

  • Merrow border โ€” the classic overlock stitch around the patch edge. Creates a rounded, defined border in any thread color. Standard on most shapes.
  • Laser-cut edge โ€” precision-cut border following your exact shape. No overlock stitch โ€” clean, flat edge flush to the design. Best for die-cut shapes, custom silhouettes, and intricate outlines.
  • Heat-cut edge โ€” similar to laser-cut; the fabric is thermally sealed to prevent fraying. Used on non-standard shapes when merrow would distort the outline.

Backing Options

  • Iron-on (heat-seal adhesive) โ€” attach with a household iron or heat press. Best for cotton, denim, and polyester garments.
  • Sew-on โ€” plain backing for hand or machine sewing. Most durable attachment method. Recommended for items that wash frequently.
  • Hook Velcro (loop on patch) โ€” removable attachment. Pair with sew-on loop panel on the garment. Standard for tactical gear and uniforms.
  • Loop Velcro (hook on patch) โ€” attaches to existing hook panels on bags and vests.
  • Peel-and-stick (pressure-sensitive adhesive) โ€” temporary placement; best for hard surfaces, displays, and short-term use.
  • Plastic backing โ€” rigid backer for pin-on or display patches.
  • Magnetic backing โ€” no-sew, no-iron attachment for thicker fabrics.
  • Safety pin backing โ€” brooch-style pin for hats, lapels, bags.
  • Button loop backing โ€” for toggle or button attachment on coats and bags.
  • No backing (raw edge) โ€” for framing, display, or custom finishing.

Use Cases

  • Uniforms and workwear โ€” company logo, department identifier, employee name
  • Military and law enforcement โ€” rank, unit, and morale patches on tactical gear
  • Sports teams and clubs โ€” season patches, tournament awards, team jackets
  • Motorcycle clubs โ€” chapter patches, back rockers, center pieces
  • Youth organizations โ€” scout badges, achievement patches, event commemoratives
  • Fashion and streetwear brands โ€” branded patches for jackets, denim, and accessories

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there really no minimum order quantity?

Correct โ€” you can order a single patch. Pricing scales with quantity, so larger orders cost less per piece, but we never require a minimum. This makes AFRYH practical for one-off personal projects and large production runs alike.

What's the difference between iron-on and sew-on backing?

Iron-on uses a heat-activated adhesive that bonds the patch to fabric with an iron or heat press. It's fast and clean, but can loosen over many washes on high-heat cycles. Sew-on has no adhesive โ€” you stitch it down by hand or machine. It's the most durable option, especially for workwear and items that wash frequently. For best longevity, many customers do both: iron-on to position, then stitch around the border.

Can you match my exact brand colors?

Yes. Provide Pantone, CMYK, or RGB values and we select the closest Madeira or Isacord thread color. We include the selected thread numbers in your proof so you can verify before production. Thread color is inherently limited to available dye lots, but we'll flag any significant deviations for your approval.

What file format do I need to send?

Any format works โ€” JPG, PNG, PDF, AI, EPS, PSD. Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) produce the most accurate results. If your artwork is raster-only and low resolution, we may perform a vector conversion first (included in the digitizing step).

How do Velcro patches work?

We sew a hook Velcro panel to the back of your patch. It attaches to loop Velcro panels on bags, vests, and jackets โ€” common on tactical gear and military uniforms. If your garment doesn't have a loop panel, we can supply loop Velcro strips separately for sewing on.
