Custom PVC Patches โ 3D Rubber Patches
What Are PVC Patches?
PVC patches are molded from polyvinyl chloride rubber โ the same flexible, durable compound used in military equipment, outdoor gear, and industrial applications. Unlike fabric patches, PVC is injection-molded rather than stitched, producing a solid rubber piece with defined raised and recessed areas. The result is inherently waterproof, UV-resistant, and impervious to the edge fraying that eventually affects embroidered patches.
AFRYH produces PVC patches in both 2D (flat surface with color separation) and 3D (raised elements that create real physical depth). The texture and dimension of a well-designed PVC patch is impossible to replicate with fabric โ it's a fundamentally different product with its own set of appropriate uses.
2D vs. 3D PVC โ Which Do You Need?
- 2D PVC โ flat surface with color areas separated by recessed channels. Colors are vivid and distinct. Best for logos with clean color zones, text, and graphic designs. Lower cost than 3D.
- 3D PVC โ design elements are physically raised to different heights, creating real dimensional depth. A skull's eyes can sit higher than the face; a shield can have a raised border. Best for morale patches, premium branding, and designs where tactile impact matters.
Why PVC Over Embroidered
- 100% waterproof โ submersible, rain-proof, sweat-proof. Fabric patches absorb moisture; PVC sheds it entirely.
- Extreme durability โ resists abrasion, tearing, and UV fade. PVC patches on tactical vests outlast the vest itself.
- Vibrant, stable color โ colors are molded-in pigments, not dye. They don't bleed, fade, or wash out.
- 3D dimension โ embroidery can only suggest depth through stitching. PVC creates actual physical relief.
- No fraying edges โ molded edges are sealed by construction. No merrow stitch needed.
Use Cases
- Military and tactical gear โ morale patches, unit identifiers, flag patches on plate carriers and helmets
- Outdoor and hiking โ trail markers, national park commemoratives, adventure club patches on packs and jackets
- Motorcycle clubs โ chapter and rank patches on riding vests; PVC holds up to weather and road grime
- Sports teams โ team patches on bags, helmets, and training gear that gets heavy use
- Promotional and branded merchandise โ high-perceived-value giveaways and retail patches
- Dog and pet accessories โ waterproof ID and decorative patches for harnesses and collars
Backing and Attachment
Velcro hook backing is standard on all PVC patches โ it's the natural match for tactical and outdoor gear. We can also supply:
- Loop Velcro โ attaches to existing hook panels
- Sew-on (plain back) โ for permanent attachment
- Brass grommet โ for stringing, lanyard, or display attachment
- Magnet backing โ for metal surfaces and non-sew applications

Frequently Asked Questions
Will PVC patches hold up to submersion and extreme weather?
Yes. PVC rubber is non-absorbent and unaffected by water, salt, or humidity. The material is used in marine and military applications precisely because it performs where fabric fails. UV-stable pigments prevent color fade even with prolonged sun exposure.
How is 3D depth created?
We design a multi-layer mold where different elements sit at different heights โ typically 2mm, 4mm, and 6mm above the base. When PVC is injected and cured, those depth differences become physical relief on the patch surface. You can feel the layers with your fingers.
Can I get glow-in-the-dark or IR-reflective PVC patches?
Yes to both. Glow-in-the-dark pigment is mixed into the relevant color zones and charges from ambient light. IR-reflective patches appear black under normal light but reflect IR light under night vision โ used by military and law enforcement. Specify at order time.
What artwork format do you need?
Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) are strongly preferred โ they let us define the exact raised areas and color separations for molding. Raster files are accepted but may require vector conversion before we can create the mold file. Include any notes about which areas should be raised in 3D.
Are PVC patches safe for children's products?
Our PVC compound is REACH-compliant and free of phthalates. For products specifically targeting children under 12, contact us before ordering so we can confirm the relevant compliance documentation for your jurisdiction.
